Book launches occurred across the Murray-Riverina region to celebrate student achievements in the Creative Catchment Kids program and to honour the individuals whom the books were about.
Aunty Fay: An Inspirational Journey
Four students from Ashmont Public School in Wagga Wagga, NSW, met and had a yarn to Aunty Fay Clayton Moseley, Wiradjuri Elder. Aunty Fay is the inspiration for their school’s celebration of NAIDOC Week in 2018, as the theme was ‘Because of Her, We Can’. The life and lessons of Uncle Roy Kennedy
In a fitting tribute to a man loved and respected in his community, The Life and Lessons of Uncle Roy Kennedy is a book written by 10 Hay Public School students as part of the Creative Catchment Kids program.
Uncle Roy Kennedy is a proud Elder of the Ngiyampaa people. The Ngiyampaa people are known as ‘Dry Land People’. His lessons about life include; love our family no matter what, be a caring individual, respect our teachers, care for our country.

Greenthinning adventures on beautiful Namcott
The children from year 6 at Hay Public School had a fabulous day travelling out to Namcott to interview David and Janine Cox and Allen Currie to see first hand the benefits of greenthinning.
Namcott, owned by the Cox family, is located about 30 kilometres west of Hay along the Murrumbidgee River. The Cox family ‘greenthins’ the river bends on Namcott in an effort to improve the natural environment to help the trees regrow naturally as well as support a commercial firewood business and improve the land for agricultural grazing.

A Tale of Two Farmers
Darlington Point Public School students from the Year 5 and 6 Opportunity Class had the chance to visit two fo their local farms, learn about the people who run them and their farming enterprises.
Farmer Tale 1: Farming on ‘Cavaso’. Cavaso Farming Pty. Ltd. is owned by the Toscan Family. The main crop grown on ‘Cavaso’ is sugar plums. They also grow cotton, maize and sometimes popcorn.
Farmer Tale 2: Farming at ‘Daisy Lodge’. Peter Tuohey’s farming enterprise consists of three properties – ‘Daisy Lodge’, ‘Kulki’ and ‘Carlisle’. Cotton, wheat and corn are the main crops grown, with some barley, rice and canola being grown in previous years.
