In 2018, Petaurus Education Group supported a number of schools with projects funded under the Department of Education’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures Grants Initiative. We partnered with PeeKdesigns on the development of cultural teaching resources for the following schools.

Please note: We encourage schools to work with their local Aboriginal Education Officers and other representatives. These resources do not replace local knowledge, merely support classroom discussion and learning. 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that these document may contain images, voices and/or names of people who have since passed away.


Jerilderie Public School

OVERVIEW: Uncle Freddie Dowling is a Pangarang Elder and lives in Jerilderie, NSW. He is a storyteller and published author. This project will engage Uncle Freddie to run workshops in the schools, develop curriculum activities from his stories and record his stories in digital format for future generations.


Kapooka Public School

OVERVIEW: Our Small schools network comprising Kapooka, Ladysmith, Tarcutta and Uranquinty Public Schools actively work together for curriculum and professional development.  As a learning network we propose to work with local Wiradjuri people and education specialists to guide us in developing stage based learning activities that will be suitable for use with the latest digital communication technologies. This resource will provide a range of information and activities to help teachers and students within the Riverina region of New South Wales learn about Australia’s First Peoples.


Henty Public School

OVERVIEW: To develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of teachers in the Morgan Country Network through targeted professional development and the development of teaching and learning resources that will provide lesson content and learning experiences focussing on locally significant protocols, histories, places, cultures and traditions.


Gol Gol Public School

OVERVIEW: This project is to ensure all students are aware of their local culture and heritage and are inspired to tackle science with a purpose and an understanding. The intent is to create a suite of syllabus-linked resources to support student learning in the Centre. Key topics include: history of the local people (Barkindji); bush foods, medicines and tools – identification, use, bush survival; representing key messages and stories through art; sustainability – taking care of the land; and totems – taking care of wildlife and habitat.


Tanja Public School

OVERVIEW: Our school community will undertake a project to develop an interactive mapping document that will represent 6 Aboriginal nations in NSW. This “e-book” will be totally digital for use by stage 2 /3 students and will contain facts and information relevant to Aboriginal culture and history for those regions. This highly engaging communication technology platform will be a simple however effective tool to engage in cross-curriculum learning in our small school.


Rand Public School

OVERVIEW: Petaurus Education Group has supported Rand Public School in the development of some bush tucker fact sheets for their newly established Indigenous garden. These fact sheets will be used as part of a larger education program being developed and delivered by the school.
